Lanotec’s Jay Robotham Takes on GT World Challenge Asia

Lanotec Ambassador Jay Robotham’s busy motorsport schedule for 2024 will expand into the world of GT3 racing, with confirmation of a partial campaign in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia aboard a Mercedes-AMG for Climax Racing.

At this stage, the events at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, and the Fuji International Speedway are confirmed, with Robotham set to line up alongside Chinese driver Min Heng.

The Chinese-based Climax Racing, meanwhile, are highly credentialled across the region, with success in GT competition with a range of marques, as well as in the ever-competitive Carrera Cup Asia.

The news comes in addition to Robotham’s already announced Supercars endurance race co-drive with Brad Jones Racing and Bryce Fullwood, plus a full season in the Thailand Super Series for Corliss Race Engineering, where he will campaign in both the GTM Championship aboard a MARC Mustang and in the Super Pickup class in a new-model Ford Ranger.

The drive’s confirmation comes after a successful test with the outfit at Sepang, a facility that will feature twice on the Thailand Super Series schedule in August and September.

“It’s awesome to be able to lock in these races with Climax Racing in GT World Challenge Asia, they are a very professional team in a super competitive championship,” said Robotham.

“GT racing in Asia is a big deal – the fields are typically large with some different machinery to what we normally see in Australia.

“Also, the series attracts a lot of international interest with some big-name drivers from around the world involved, while guys like Triple Eight are typically front runners.

“You always want to be able to test yourself against the best, and I think in this field, the level of competition is right up there.

“It’s always great to get as much seat time as possible, especially with the longer GT formats in play.

“Hopefully, the different programs this year will put me in good stead by the time the Supercars enduros roll around, and I can be on the pace at Bathurst.”

Elsewhere, Robotham currently leads the Lanotec Victorian Hyundai Excel Championship after claiming overall honours at the two opening rounds from Sandown and Winton, while last weekend, he claimed pole position in Class D at the Bathurst 6 Hour aboard a Toyota 86.

Robotham’s racing resume features successes from his climb up the motorsport ladder, including from Excel Racing, Toyota 86s, Production Cars, Trans-Am racing, plus Super2 and Super3, which have culminated in two appearances to date in the Bathurst 1000.
